"upset mother.."

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

My child 4 year old had tonsillectomy operation, everything was okay, up until after the op, the surgeon advised we could go home the same day, even though my son had a temperature after the op, overnight stay was suggested by the nurse, all night I had to buzz the buzzer every four hours as he woke up in agony when the pain relief was wearing off, I had to remind the staff each time he needed a top up, next morning he ate weetabix he was sick after the morphin they gave him during the night, again I buzzed, a member of staff came over and panicked said they would bring me some blue roll! So they did, the member of staff watched me whilst I cleaned the sick from the bed to the bathroom, i asked if there was a cleaner as simply roll would not kill any germs some kind of cleaning equipment was required, my child was sat on the bed crying he was sore he had been sick he had sick on his clothes on the bed, anyway after wiping as best as I could, I asked for a glass of water for him, the member of staff gave me directions to go and get some. I didn't want to leave my child as he was upset had no sleep and didn't want to leave him for a minute, so the member of staff said they would get it this time but next time I would have to get it myself.. Fair enough..at this point I was rather annoyed they bought along some sheets for the bed.. I asked if they would like me to make them as well as clean the floor.. they replied no! Anyway the member of staff knew I was annoyed and said " well he is your child " !!! Of course I know he is my child they didn't have to remind me, baring in mind I was really upset at the fact he was having his op seeing him under anaesthetic was really upsetting for me. And on top I rang the buzzer all night for meds and in the morning I got a member of staff who had no sympathy no empathy no feeling for a patient. The member of staff didn't even attend to my child, I don't know what they were doing on a children's ward. However we did have a brilliant nurse and I did write a thank you note for them. I did tell the ward manager over this member of staff's behaviour and funnily enough we ended up in the same ward 6 days later as my son had a terrible bleed and required cauterisation again unfortunately. This member of staff's attitude had totally changed they couldn't do enough. I was very surprised they must have had a telling off! I have to say hospitals are not the same, you don't get the same care anymore it's sad but true. fingers crossed I hope myself or my children never have to go into hospital again
