"There should be psychiatric recovery wards as well as acute wards"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital / Pendle view inpatient unit

(as the patient),

When a client is admitted to a psychiatric ward they are very ill and through no fault of their own, they may halt the progress of other clients who are in recovery stage.

What I suggest is that there are recovery wards as well as acute wards. This would mean when an acute patient is deemed well enough they are transferred to a recovery unit with in the same hospital. This would also be good for clients with depression etc

Many thanks for your posting about the need for psychiatric recovery wards. This is an area the Trust has been looking at and exploring the best ways to cater for this need. We recognise that many of our patients require different levels of care while they are in our inpatient units and this needs to be reflected in the way the wards are organised. We also try to ensure that wherever possible care is delivered in the community and that admissions are avoided if possible and when they do occur are kept as brief as possible.
